From June 12, 2026, LAID BUG will present a solo exhibition by Yushi Arimura.

Based in Kagoshima, Yushi Arimura continuously records landscapes and everyday occurrences using a film camera through his daily fieldwork. Whether capturing a quietly undulating sea, densely forested mountains, wildlife, or forgotten architecture, his photographic works—cut from diverse perspectives—are precisely framed alongside the light present at that moment, bringing forth the subtle presence inherent in each subject. In July 2023, Arimura held his first-ever solo exhibition at LAID BUG. In November 2024, he participated in the group exhibition INTANGIBILITY at HVW8 Gallery in Berlin, where he also presented his second solo exhibition, Scotoma.

While meticulously capturing beautiful and fleeting fragments of scenery, Arimura directs his gaze toward the "boundaries" where different entities meet. Inside and outside, light and shadow, foreground and background, surface and depth, life and death, present and memory—he sensitively captures the moments when these opposing elements touch, presenting them to the viewer. At times, halation caused by light occurs in his photographs, melting contrasts and blurring outlines, which transforms the subject into a completely different image. Through these visual shifts caused by halation, Arimura suggests that boundaries do not merely exist between ourselves and the outside world, but are inherently rooted within our own perception.

Using landscape as a medium to re-examine the relationship between perception and cognition, Arimura's works demonstrate the artist's consistent exploration of how the visible world transforms through photographic expression.
